Happy Fourth of July

Today We Celebrate Our Independence Day

This time it really does make sense to watch this video, I promise:

Skip to 1:02, if you like

Stirring, emotional and for the first time in the history of this blog, this video is being used on an appropriate date.

This video made me laugh.  I suppose it sort of has fireworks in it, which makes it relevant today:

Don't Forget to Wear Green

Going Green

Today is the day when guys typically put on a T-shirt with a shamrock printed on the front, girls put on a green top or accessory and Starbucks employees wear the same apron they do every other day.  A lot of green beer will be drunk today, which means it's time to watch this:

For those of you who have been following this blog
since last December, I hope this isn't getting old

Apparently, I was wrong.  It's too early for us to watch this.

Clean Sheets and Dirty Girls Guide to St. Patrick's Day Drinking

An episode of Archer that premiered this March introduced me to the concept of the Green Russian, which consists of absinthe and half and half.  If you're hosting a house party, you might want to work on the proper mixture before the festivities begin because a traditional White or Black Russian relies on the deliciousness (why didn't spell check underline deliciousness?) that is Kahlua.  Simply replacing that with absinthe sounds awful.  In any event, here is way I mix my Las Vegas drink of choice, a White Russian:
4 oz. vodka
3 oz. Kahlua
Splash of half and half

Hip Hip Hooray, It's Valentine's Day

It's Time

Today we honor what I believe is a made up holiday designed to sell greeting cards, flowers and chocolate, which means it's the perfect time for this:

Skipping ahead to 1:02 is perfectly acceptable

No, I was wrong- it's not the perfect time for this.

Time to Snuggle Up with the One You Love

In San Simeon, CA, which is right next to the famous Hearst Castle, the beaches are filled with elephant seals at this time of year.

Top: I like you.
Bottom: Get away from me!

Loud as heavy machinery and twice as ugly as anything at your zoo, the elephant seal is a creature that won't be winning any beauty contests but it's worth heading down to the beach to look at them if you happen to visit Hearst Castle.

Who Wants Diamonds and Gold When You Could Have Platinum?

A lot of people will be impressed to receive gold and diamonds today.

Meanwhile, according to the BBC, this guy found what he believes is three billion dollars worth of platinum.

I'm always skeptical of stories like this so I plan to keep track of this story to see if this guy really has found an amount of platinum that will seriously upset the world market for this precious metal.

It's Time

Holiday Shopping
I think about time some... well... times.  Last Tuesday, I wrapped up my holiday shopping.  In less than five minutes from thinking "I should really buy them something because the big day is less than a week away" I had finished placing an order for a piece of electronics, which would be delivered in time for Christmas.

The day before, I spent three hours driving from one store to another trying to find slacks in my size. To my dismay, I discovered that not a single one of the stores I visited carried anything with an inseem longer than 32".  Finally, because a late afternoon meeting that day was the reason I was driving around looking for pants, I visited a slightly fancier caliber of store.  After hours of searching, I found a decent pair of pants that fit well enough.

If there is anything worth taking away from this story (and I'm not sure there is) it's a suggestion/ reminder to plan ahead and shop online.

Whatcha Talkin'Willis,
Whatcha Talkin' 'Bout Everyone
(Ah, Simpsons, I remember when you were consistently funny)

Today is Christmas and that means that it's the perfect time to enjoy the following:

Skip ahead to 1:02 if you like

No, no I was wrong.  It's too soon for us to watch this.

Errors in Posting Recently

I goofed recently.  I allowed a pair of posts which I partially drafted but never finished to be published.  I would blame the editorial staff but this is a one man operation.
